When the Israelites tried to beat their enemies without the help of the Lord, they failed completely. Lord, help me to trust in your power alone instead of trusting in my own abilities alone.

Even though the Israelites had sinned, God still chose people to be spiritual leaders. This reminds me how precious I am to God; he chose to save me: a sinner. Lord, help me to know your love for me and to remember the way you forgave my sins.

Aaron's sons found it difficult to follow God even after all the specific instructions they were given. This shows the truly sinful nature of humans and the tendency we have to drift away from God. This also means that we have to trust in God more. Lord, help me to love your law and follow it continuously.

The Israelites followed all of these instructions in order to give glory to God. Lord, help me to give you glory by following the word of God.

January 31

Even though I've heard this story so many times, it amazes me that the Israelites turn away from God so quickly. After reading about their past, you would think that they would learn patience and submit to God's laws, but instead, they fell to their temptations. In the same way, I am tempted constantly and fall away so easily from God's path. Lord, help me to remember your goodness and strip away the idols I have placed on my throne.

January 30

God gives the Israelites very specific instructions, and they submit to him even though they may not have understood why he gave them so many rules. Lord, help me to listen to your directions to me.

God is zealous for righteousness and holiness among His people.

God commanded a census to be taken before the final conquest of the Promised Land. True to His word only Joshua and Caleb were left from the first generation because the Israelites sinned by their unbelief.

Th star of Jesus is prophecies here and points to the fact that a mighty ruler will emerge from this small and seemingly insignificant nation.

Just as those who looked to the bronze snake lived, those who look to Jesus will be saved from the poison of sin and live.

The Israelites submitted to the Lord even though their lives may have seemed dull or pointless. Moses called out to the Lord when he was stressed and the Lord split up his burden; God only gave Moses what he could handle. Lord, please help me to obey and call out to you.

Service to God and His church is valued highly in God's sight.

God wants us to participate in His Passover. Perfection not needed. Faith required.

January 27

I am amazed by the way that Moses worked so selflessly for God. He sent away his family, had to deal with Pharaoh's hardened heart, and then hear angry words from the Israelites. Even through all of this, he was God's servant. Lord, help me to think of your plans, and not my own.

The song that the Israelites sing is the first time that they really recognize God's authority and submit to his power. Lord, help me to look past my fears and to trust in your mighty hand.

The people of Israel were told to put blood above their doors to serve as protection against God's wrath. In the same way, the blood of Jesus is a sign that our sins have already been covered.

Just like the Pharaoh, I have told God that I will listen to His commands once he does something for me first. Many times, I expect God to take away my problems instead of focusing on His goodness. Lord, help me not to harden my heart towards you, but to be filled with your love and to be your servant.

When Moses was confronted by the Israelites, he was frightened and worried, but God provided Moses with clear direction. God controls everything. At one point, even the Egyptian magicians said, "This is the finger of God" because they were in such awe of the Lord's mighty powers. Our God is the creator.

God gave Moses many tasks to do but provided all the means to complete them.

Whatever harm might befall us in our lives, a God intends for good. He redeems any stormy day to be a beautiful opportunity for us to draw nearer to Him.

God gave Joseph the skills he needed to manage Egypt's land & people.

So many unfortunate things happened to Joseph, but throughout everything, we see God's immense love & grace on Joseph. Lord, help me to have unwavering faith in you and know that you will lift me up out of my troubles.

God wants to keep Jacob safe, so not only does he tell Jacob to go to Bethel, but God makes sure that no one is following them. This is, at first, surprising because Jacob & his family do not seem to deserve that kind of protection from God; however, God did not help Jacob because of Jacob's role, but out of His mercy and grace. Lord, help me to submit to you as you crush my enemies and make them flee form me.

Even though Jacob had sinned so much, God blessed him and protected him from the wrath of others. God loves us even though we are sinners.

In all things, God works for the good of those who love him. :)

Interesting story.  But through it all God is Sovereign and God has a wonderf plan in store for both Joseph and even Judah.

While the Edomites had bountiful possessions, and many predecessors, they forgot about God and soon grew hostile to Him. Dear God, help me to keep you at the center not only in times of despair, but also in times of plenty.

Even in times of dismay and despair, God hears and answers our prayers according to His sovereign will.

The God of Abraham and Isaac reveals Himself to Jacob and has now become the God of Jacob.

The God of Abraham is now the God of Isaac as well. As he learns to depend on God in a hostile place, he is reminded that God is faithful.

God tested Abraham and he passed because He believed and trusted in God who provides. What faith!

Even though Abraham lied again, God still called him a prophet. I found this so powerful; God had chose-he created- us to be included in His epic mission, and that doesn't change even if we show doubt or fear as Abraham had in that situation.

God used the people he created each in their own way.

After the flood, God said that he will never again destroy the living things on earth in a similar fashion even though every human is born as a sinful being. Instead, God sent Jesus to save us. Our God shows us mercy.

God willingly walks with those who want to walk with Him. Though Enoch was a sinner, God "walked with him", purely because He loved Enoch, and Enoch loved God and had a desire to "walk with Him".

Everything that God created was good. It was only when Satan entered the Garden of Eden that the world was corrupted. The sins committed there led to shame and broken relationships just as our sins distance us from God. Lord, help me to realize that Satan is tempting me and help me to not be deceived but to stand firm in your word.

December 31

God will not only deliver me from my sins by his grace, but save me from death and instead provide me with eternal life. Lord, teach me how to obey you.
